Unconditional
A double bill of long form improvised theatre, Act I sees a group show format Improv Actually, created and directed by Maryann Quagliata and developed through Impro ACT’s Creators’ Den program. A series of couples are thrust together in one place at one time. Will they remain together and see their love grow, break-up, swap partners, change their persuasions? Well, not even the actors can know when the show starts, and the result will be different every night, in this refreshing show featuring a who’s who of local improvisational theatre talent.

Act II is Unconditional, one of Nick Byrne’s most popular duo formats. Nick is Impro ACT’s Artistic Director, who travels the world teaching, directing, and performing, but typically hands the reigns to his students for improvisation performed locally. In this show, he’ll do an entire long form play with a different partner each night, plus a roving musician. It’s a bit like this….
How unconditional are our relationships, really? We just react to the smallest thing as if it might be a challenge to our romances, our family relationships, our closest friendships. These moments might be entirely innocent, or they might change everything, and how are we to know? In this show, the audience is given the space to project their own hopes and fears, as the actors allow both the comedic and dramatic pressures to build until they can’t take it anymore and let loose in directions that might be outrageously funny or deeply moving or both, but in the history of this show, they are most commonly described as ‘hyper-real’.

A mobile musician (eg. acoustic guitar) wanders between or around the pair. The musician is not in the same dimension, and may be the two characters' conscience or alter ego or simply the thing that stands between them
