Travelling North by David Williamson.
Director: Cate Clelland
Performing 11-27 June 2026

ALl audition bookings must be done through this online booking form

Love at a time of change.
Travel to more than just a tree change place, where relationships, love, aging and family are key to this timeless Australian play. Frank and Frances find new life in a twilight love affair, to the consternation of their conventional children. Their dream takes them north to the sun; but no sooner do they find their idyll than signs of mortality betray Frank’s lion spirit. A moving homage to age and the old radicals who changed the course of Australian history.

An Amateur Production By Arrangement with Camerons Management - cameronsmanagement.com.au

Come and audition for this classic Australian play!

Auditions for all roles are Saturday 7 February and Sunday 8 February 2026.

·         Saturday 6 February 9am to 1pm

·         Sunday 7 February 9am to 6pm
Canberra REP Theatre, 3 Repertory Lane, Acton

All actors will work closely with the director and the rest of the production team to rehearse and develop this show. Rehearsals may take place on some weeknights, and on weekends with days to be advised following casting, and rehearsals expected to increase closer to opening of the show.

Across this process, the production team is here to help and assist in any and all preparation for performance. Intimacy and choreography (where needed) will be provided.

For the auditions please prepare a short monologue (2-3 minutes) preferably, but not necessarily, from an Australian play. Actors should be prepared to stay for at least an hour.

Auditions will be held in the Ryan Room at REP on the above days in 1 hour group slots. Please select your preferences and you will be emailed about these with as much notice as possible.

Travelling North is a serious play with lots of comedy. It deals with serious themes of ageing and death, but also explores ideas about youth and intergenerational relationships.

Experienced actors with good comic timing are encouraged to audition.

Please prepare a monologue of about 2-3 minutes from an Australian play and be prepared to read excerpts from the play Travelling North with others. This play has very few real monologues, but you might like to look at the role of Helen on Act 1, scene 6 ; or Freddy in Act 2, scene 2; or Frank in Act 2, scene 7.

Please allow about an hour for your audition.

Please text Cate on 0408403275 with any questions or for further help.
