“It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit.”
As research for his latest novel, sceptic Charles Condomine invites a self-proclaimed medium, Madame Arcati to conduct a seance. When Mme Arcati accidentally conjures up the spirit of his first wife Elvira, he doesn't stand a ghost of a chance against Elvira's determination to wreck his current marriage. Through supernatural shenanigans she creates merry mayhem for all! REP's 2025 production of Blithe Spirit is guaranteed to be farcical fun for all involved!

We are looking for seven actors to bring this play to life! These actors will work closely with the director and the rest of the production team to rehearse and develop this show. Rehearsals will take place on two weeknights, and one weekend day a week starting in Mid-February, with rehearsals expected to increase closer to opening of the show.
Across this process, the production team is here to help and assist in any and all preparation for performance. Intimacy and fight choreography (where needed) will be provided. Dramatic experience is a plus but certainly not required!
For the auditions please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue, in the style of Blithe Spirit (British farce). We encourage auditionees to prepare the monologue in a British accent (RP). Accents will be required at callbacks.
NOTE: As this play is set in Kent, England, we would love for actors to attempt a general British accent (or a specific dialect noted in character descriptions) – we will hone in on accent during the rehearsal period, just give it your best shot for now!
Auditions will be held at St Columba’s Church and Church Hall on the evenings of Wednesday 5 to Friday 7 February, in 15 minute slots from 6-10pm. Callbacks will be held during the day on Saturday 8 February, and you will be emailed about these with as much notice as possible.
SCRIPTS are available from Canberra REP Theatre Wed-Fri 10am – 4pm. Closed on public holidays and from 20 December 2024 to 8 January 2025 for the New Year period. There is a $5 cash deposit for scripts – refundable on return at the auditions. No card payments taken.
We are dedicated to telling stories that reflect and engage with the community they come from. In line with this, we highly encourage actors from diverse backgrounds, BIPOC creatives, linguistically diverse creatives, members of the LGBTQ+ community and members of the Disabled community to audition.
You will receive an email confirming all your audition details once you have applied. If you have any questions, concerns, or simply want to tell us how much you love this play, email us here:
